As soon as the words strolled

Across the doctor’s lips,

She realized the cold waste –

For the first time she understood

The crushing news she seemed to have known

Since before her suffocating womb.

But, half our babies were already in her,

Swimming the comforting depths of life,

Sleeping sweetly with unknowing black eyes.

Innocently they toyed with death’s dark rope,

Grasping at their first connection –

That pure life line.

Conduit of mother’s life building juice,

Rope enough for a baby’s noose.
