Taqueek Runyan was an angry black youth in a town full of them. He was raised in a very religious household by “working class” parents, who—like most of the adults in the northern New Jersey area—were unemployed.

Then, in a bizarre twist of fate, an unidentified assailant aiming for a hot dog vendor mistakenly shot The Nassau Weekly in the face. He died instantly. Some wondered whether or not anyone would care, but at least Justin Gerald did.
